as Chalmers puts it – "much less than we thought". It seems that our everyday awareness of the world is detailed, smooth and constantly updated. But this is little more than a useful illusion. "We thought we were conscious of everything, all the details of a picture; but it turns out that maybe we"re just conscious of seven blobs that we attend to. Whenever we attend to it, it"s there. But [at least so far as consciousness is concerned] it"s not always there."
